A sunny weekend...

This weekend, the sun decided to come out and warm us up after the snow melted. Ken and I took Zooey out to Central Market to sit in the sun and let her watch the kids playing in the park. She loves watching the kids on the playscape and squeals with excitement, pumping her arms up and down. It was so nice to feel the sun again, and to get out. She loves being outdoors. And Central Market is a great place for families- sun, a place for kids to play, beer, wine and food, and music on the weekends. It's one of our favorite places to go.

Today, it was back to the park, this time to San Gabriel, to take a walk and go get ice cream. Everyone was out enjoying the weather. I don't know if I'll ever get used to the Texas weather; it could be 80 at noon and then 20 degrees later the same day once a cold front comes through. As they say, " if you don't like the weather in Texas, just wait...it'll change!"

I am so in love with this sweetpea!!! Zooey is getting so cute, I can barely deal with it. She claps and squeals with she's excited, laughs and babbles all the time, and is very entertaining in general. One of her favorite things to do is to fall backward in my arms so I will roll her up and kiss her belly...then, she laughs hysterically. Being a mom is seriously the best!! I am madly in love!

What I'm Reading Now...

I recently picked up A Super Sad True Love Story by Gary Shteyngart from the library. It's about a futuristic world in which America is no longer a superpower, and the dollar is backed by the Chinese Yuan. The main character is unattractive and unhealthy, but still values books in a world where no one reads and they think books stink, literally. It's not my typical choice of genre, but it's pretty satirical, and makes you think about a world in which everyone wants to live forever, there is no privacy, America is no longer desirable, and Media and Credit are the most coveted jobs. Plus, girls wear onionskin jeans...read the book to find out what they are-- pretty funny. I'm going to stick with it; I think I'll end up really liking it.

Valentine's Day weekend...

I just checked out Eclipse from the library.  I can't wait to read it!

Valentine's day weekend.  Ken and I are going down to San Antonio to stay with Rema and Terry.  On Sunday we're going to visit some museums.  I have always wanted to go to the museums there and explore the town a little.

Ken brought home white and dark chocolate covered strawberries for valentine's.  He is a sweetheart.  A romantic.  He always celebrates Valentine's even though I don't really care that much about it.

Twilight the movie is playing at the discount theater.  I really want to see it, but Ken said he refuses to go with me.  Bummer.

What I'm Reading Now...

I am reading The Wishing Year  by Noelle Oxenhandler.  It is about a year in which she uses the concept of "Putting It Out There" to obtain her heart's desire: to buy a home, find love, and be spiritually healed.  She also analyzes the nature of hoping and wishing.  It's a little like "the power of positive thinking" and The Secret.  I just started the book, but supposedly she gets everything she wanted that year.

I downloaded the book on my Kindle for 9.99.  I am enjoying the Kindle so far-- it makes reading in bed so easy since you can cuddle in the blankets and you just need one arm to hold the device.  My only complaint is that you can't see the cover which is something I love about books.  Also, you don't know what page you're on, and it's difficult to flip back and forth between pages, which I do often.  I think the benefit of having multiple books all on one device will outweigh those factors.  It will never replace books, but it is very cool.  The only problem is that I was getting good at checking out books at the library and now I'm spending money buying books for my Kindle.  It is just too tempting to be able to download the book instantly.  So, when my birthday comes around and you want to get me a gift, buy my an amazon.com gift certificate!    ; )

Missing Summer...

I am missing the summertime, especially because that's when I get to come home to Ojai!  Counting down the months until summer break.

Ken is still on his Standard Process Purification Cleanse.  No packaged foods, no wheat or dairy, all vegetarian.  I am enjoying eating vegetarian with him.  I love that everything we are eating is made from scratch and mostly whole foods.  Last night he made a veggie ratatouille over brown rice.  It had a tomato base with eggplant, bell pepper, onion and more.  It was so good!

No ice day today! : (

We had to go out in the morning and deal with the cold and the ice.  My entire car was iced over and I could barely open my door.  We really wanted to stay in bed, stay warm and cuddle instead.
